As an intuitive, I utilize many ways of connecting with spirit. Meditation, breathwork, time in nature, yoga, spiritual practices, conscious channeling and use of oracle cards are just some of the active ways in which I connect.

Many of my clients ask me about how I use oracle cards. In this blog, I share with you what my processes are.  This is important to understand because everyone uses their tools differently.  If you are considering using oracle/angel cards for guidance (which I hope you do), it is important to know that it is like a spiritual practice and you must commit to and refine your process.

With that being said, using oracle cards requires reverence and an honoring to the highest good for all. It is a tool that I believe needs baseline knowledge before you just pick up a deck and go. I mean, you CAN just pick one up but you’ll get clearer guidance and have a better understanding around your questions if you know some basics first.

My recommended Universal Concepts to understand are the following:

1. Connecting to guidance of higher-self, angels, archangels, spirit guides and other beings of light is an honor and demands respect.

2. Always create a sacred container by opening and closing with a blessing, prayer or incantation. 

3. Always use a clearing process before and after.

4. Always hold the highest experience/timeline for yourself or another person as your intention.

My process for using oracle cards:

1. I like to use a special table to sit at, adorned with crystals, sacred geometry and candles. There are times with less formal readings that I sit anywhere.

2. I choose an oracle card deck from my library of decks.  If I am reading on a specific thing, I will choose a deck that will support what I am looking at. Sometimes, I use several decks.  I let my intuition guide me on that.

3. I place selenite crystals on top of each deck to clear them.

4. I light a white candle.

5. I clear my energy centers, balance them and ground. 

6. I use clearing spray, sage or Palo Santo to clear and energize the room,  including a spray or wafting over the cards.

7. I quiet my mind and more fully open my third eye through a few minutes meditation and training on connecting into the quantum field.

8. I always open with a prayer or verbal intention. During this time, I will call in my guides or any specific angel/archangels or beings of light that I wish to connect with for assistance.

9. The reading process I will describe below.

10. I always close with a prayer or moment of thanks/gratitude. 

11. Clear the space the same way you did before the reading.

12. I clear my own energy and end it by rinsing my hands and wrists under cool running water and then shake them dry.

Before you begin, it is important to get clear on what you are wanting guidance on. The Universe is very literal and it is important that you frame your questions or “asks for guidance” with specifics.

You can use oracle cards from a simple 1 card pull to detailed and expansive spreads. I have learned that there is a time and a place for all. Oracle decks come with guidebooks that offer suggestions for spreads that you can use.  I will do that from time to time, but I am more inclined to do intuitive readings and interpretations of cards as they come up.

Ways that you can pull cards… 

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are using a brand new deck OR a deck that is new to YOU, you must clear the deck.  

It is also important that you connect your energy to them.  Pick up the deck and handle each of the cards individually. Begin shuffling them. Some intuitives shuffle with their non-dominant hand into the dominant hand to receive. There are times I will do this, but more often I just shuffle in whatever way I am called.  

Watch for “jumper cards” as you are shuffling. They offer direct information to whatever your inquiry is regarding.  Important cards will show for you by either being one card left in your hand as you are shuffling or by sticking out.  You can also place the cards on the table and spread them out choosing cards either according to the spread instructions or by intuitively choosing as you go.  I do tend to use the first card that comes forward as what I call a “base” card.  This gives a general statement around the reading. Then I just keep connecting to my guides, wisdom, higher-self, intuitive awareness for additional cards for guidance.  Your reading will tell a story. Keep connecting the energy of the cards. Go back and look at them as you pull more.  See what comes forward for you.  Allow your intuition to guide you and tell you when it is complete.   

I use these guidelines and processes for readings whether I am reading for myself, a client, family/friends or the collective. My way is just that; MY way. Choose what resonates for you and start.  I have tweaked, changed and grown my practice of oracle card reading over the years.  It will continue to change as I change.
