MERCURY RETROGRADE - What’s the Deal?

It’s another Mercury Retrograde.  Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.  So what’s the big deal? We hear about this all the time.  You’ve probably heard people blaming big events and situations that “get in our way” on this event.  I, personally, love this retrograde. It gives us opportunities to connect again to situations/events/people where perhaps we need a do-over or a deeper dive into healing. So, let’s look into it.

Mercury is a planet that rules many things; the mind, communication, travel and technology to name a few.  It is also said to be the “messenger of  God”, bringing to us through reflection that which is needing to be seen. Expanding even further, Mercury says to us “Connect to your Inner Wisdom and Divine knowing and through a compassionate heart, alchemize an abundant life.”

The planet Mercury is the fastest moving planet in our solar system, but when it goes into retrograde, approximately three times a year, for up to six weeks at a time, it “appears” to stop/standstill and move backwards. This is referred to as retrograde. When this occurs, we experience additional go-arounds with people, experiences, circumstances and opportunities that we have danced with in the past.  #thisisagoodthing

All planets move into retrograde at different times. The effects of these retrogrades are unique as they are influenced by the ruling energies of each planet. Plus, each individual astrological sign has different levels of experience as well. The outer planets; Jupiter, Saturn. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto give us longer retrogrades and tend to be more subtle. The planets that are closer to us; Mercury, Venus and Mars, tend to move through their retrograde quicker but pack a bigger punch. We won’t get into the individual aspects here today, but we will look at what we can do to support ourselves during Mercury retrograde in particular and how to navigate with greatest ease.

SUPPORT YOURSELF THROUGH:

  • Rest - Allow yourself to slow down. Go to bed an hour early or allow yourself some extra self-care with a nap.

  • Grounding your energy - Get outside. Put your bare feet on the ground or do some gardening. “Earthing” will assist your body to energetically settle and balance out.

  • Consciously choose your higher-self to lead your interactions with EVERYTHING - Commit to consciously breathing. See with eyes of compassion as you navigate this time.

  • Drinking an abundance of water - We are made of 70% water and retrogrades are challenging on our physical body as well as our emotional and mental body. You need extra hydration.

Here are some areas to consider carefully during Mercury Retrograde:

  • Avoid taking elaborate dream vacations - Delays and bumps in the road are evident during these times so if you are traveling, plan for additional time for detours, pivots and change of plans.

  • Avoid sending important messages via text - Technology glitches will mess things up both in terms of sending/receiving and in what is being communicated compared to received as intended.

  • Avoid making impulsive decisions - Mercury retrogrades can bring in some unclear or fuzzy thinking as we are going back over old territory. It can cloud things a bit so you may need more time to make decisions.

  • Avoid signing contracts UNLESS you spend extra time reading the fine print and are really clear on what you are wanting as you move forward.

  • Commit to communicating face-to-face - This can be a time where what you are trying to communicate may not be clear and/or can bring up old patterns and cycles for both you and the person on the receiving end.  Talking it out in real time with compassionate hearts is best.

  • Commit to double checking EVERYTHING - Dates, times, plans, information you swear you know; things are processed differently in our minds during Mercury retrograde.

  • Commit to forgiveness - This is the biggest gift you can give yourself during this time. More often than not, we revisit stuff because we are holding onto an energy of lower vibration. Like; guilt, shame, anger, frustration or resentment. Try to see with eyes of compassion and recognize that everyone did the best they knew how given their level of consciousness at the time; including you.

  • Commit to organizing gatherings of old friends - This is a great time to say yes to connection with people you’ve maintained relationships with over the years, but perhaps life has gotten busy and you have not seen in a while.

  • Commit to going with the flow. Trust where you are being taken. The Universe is always actively supporting you. This is an amped up time for that and sometimes our mind/ego has different plans.

  • Commit to reaching out to people you are thinking about and have not seen in a while - That gathering of old friends I mentioned above…. Your guest list can be created like this!

  • Commit to completing unfinished projects - This is an energetically supported time to complete these things. Take advantage of it!

  • Commit to shadow work - Lots of “stuff” tends to come up for us during this time. Embrace instead of resisting it. Seek support from someone who can assist you to navigate through it.

  • Commit to mending broken relationships - This is NOT the same as rekindling a relationship. Just like forgiveness assists in releasing patterns of experience that have come back around again for us, so does bringing closure to a fractured relationship.

My challenge for you is to flip your script on Mercury Retrograde. Use this time to your advantage. Become the self-empowered, conscious co-creator of your world. Look everything in the eye and feel, heal and release.

I love you.
